Our major development efforts were not only focused in creating DVD Audio Link. We had to make major changes to the central section of the MPEG decoder of DVD mechanism, in order to assure top quality for the AlpineF#1Status system. We also had to replace the tuner unit with one having greater sensitivity. As the development was proceeding, we were forced to reselect the microprocessor, since the capacity and processing ability of the main microprocessor was not enough. These kinds of things never have happened in our regular development process. Since these developments were so very important and major, we gathered together the top professionals in each technology, and each worked allowing no compromise. It was very difficult to obtain the best solution in such situation, but I believe we were able to reach it. Through all this, I can confidently say that AlpineF#1Status represents the culmination of Alpine’s wisdom and expertise.
For example, we were especially meticulous about the sound quality. The first time we checked the sound, we asked ourselves “Is this the way DVD-Audio should sound?” The sound quality should not change no matter what the format. We guessed from our long-time experience that the cause for sound changes came from the power source section. So, for the power source structure we developed in parallel a series regulator system in addition to the existing DC-DC converter system in order to choose the better system. We gambled on this tactic to proceed with two systems, knowing that the development scale would be twice as big and time consuming. We were immensely satisfied when the sound evaluation came and showed that the series regulator is overwhelmingly better. The devices and the know-how that overcame crucial problems one after another show in various places throughout the system. Since I was in the position of organizing the entire system, it was a very huge and difficult task to oversee the software development among the devices. However, it is a real pleasure for an engineer to face against significant difficulties and solve them. |
