Sound System Engineering 01/02
Hitoshi Saito "Tuning an audio system is like bringing together the members of anorchestra, getting the sound balance right, and making sure they work together."
Designing the circuits and components is only half the battle; there are significant sonic challenges that start from that point.
Most people think that once you finish designing and manufacturing the audio circuitry of a system, the job is completed and the setup is done. That’s hardly the case; there are major sonic challenges even after this. It’s like bringing together the members of an orchestra, having them tune their instruments to each other, getting the sound balance right, and making sure they work together as a truly expressive musical ensemble. The same is true in an audio system, and this is what determines the real character of the Alpine sound.

To stay with the metaphor, our role as the conductor or sound master—the group that ultimately determined the sound of AlpineF#1Status—was a particularly heavy responsibility and a challenging job. I remember we all worked long and hard to fine-tune the sound, to get it just right. And we did get it right, to our satisfaction—still, we had to show the system to the press, and I have to admit we were a bit nervous. But the audio critics and members of the press greeted the system with enthusiastic applause, and we were filled with deep emotion.
